It is easy to explore on foot or bike making it a perfect option for solo travellers.
Why Asia is perfect for Solo Female Travellers
Southeast Asia is a well-trodden destination for keen travellers making it an ideal place for first-time female solo travellers. Travelling in a group tour means although you will be travelling Asia alone as a female, you will also meet new friends from around the world. Thailand is a great destination for women traveling on their own as it is fairly easy to get around compared to some other Asian countries. When travelling on your own as a woman in Asia the most important thing to be aware of is religious and cultural differences. In temples you will be asked to cover up if you are wearing tops revealing your shoulders and chest or if your skirts or shorts are too short. In Buddhist cultures including in Thailand and Laos it is forbidden for monks to touch women. Keep this in mind when travelling to Asia as a solo female women so you do not offend or cause any uncomfortable situations.
Nevertheless travelling alone to Asia as a female is a fantastic experience. You will meet others from all corners of the world and there is something for everyone. 1) Narrow it down!
Asia is HUGE (the biggest continent to be precise) so unless you are off travelling for years (in which case we are very jealous) than the chances are you won’t see it all in one go. Many solo travellers who want to do Southeast Asia will combine Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. 2) Check local rules and customs
In many Asia destinations there are many rules and customs to be aware of before you travel. For instance in Thailand it is illegal to fold or throw a banknote on the floor as it shows you are disrespecting the Royal Family which are depicted on the currency. In temples you must always dress appropriately and often take off your shoes before entering. Make sure to read up before you go so you can avoid any awkward scenarios on your solo travel adventure in Asia.
3) Try the local food
From steaming bowls of Pho in Vietnam to softshell crab in Singapore, Asia is home to some of the most delicious cuisine in the world. Solo travellers who are foodies will have a riot of a time exploring street markets and cafes offering weird and wonderful delicacies. In Cambodia you could try deep-fried spider if you dare! Even if it means ordering something a little spicier than you would at home, we recommend trying food you wouldn’t normally try at home on your Asia holiday!
4) Vaccinations
Remember to check with your doctor before you travel the necessary vaccinations you need when travelling solo around Asia. Travelling alone, the last thing you want is to get sick so make sure you are prepared in advance.
