Adventures
Adventurous opportunities are something that Peru possesses in abundance. Whether immersing yourself in the tangible history of the Incas at one of the countless historical sites or exploring some of South America’s most stunning natural beauty, Peru is a nation guaranteed to amaze and inspire.
Newlyweds can combine their inevitable trek up to the world famous Machu Picchu with boating 3,800m above sea level on Lake Titicaca, wandering the misty slopes of the Sacred Valley, venturing into the deep green thicket of the Amazon Rainforest or hiking amongst the surreal mountainous lakes of the Cordillera Blanca. The adventurous opportunities are almost limitless.
Culture
Home to some of the most intriguing subcultures on the continent, Peru’s indigenous populations are at once welcoming and steeped in rich tradition. During your honeymoon in Peru you will converse with all manner of fascinating individuals that still follow the ancient ways of living passed down by their ancestors. This includes peoples like the Quechua, who are direct descendants of the Incas who once ruled the region. Immersing yourselves into new cultures is a brilliant alternative to a traditional honeymoon - experiencing something so utterly eye-opening together is a memory that you will share for a lifetime.
Food and Drink
Peru’s culinary scene is an element of the country that frequently leaves visitors pleasantly surprised. Fast emerging as one of the greatest gastronomic locations in the world, Peruvian cuisine offers both cheerful local eateries and world class restaurants in abundance. Lima is home to South America’s greatest restaurants, the ideal way to treat yourselves following days of adventure in the depths of Peru’s Andean wilderness. Peru is also well renowned as the home of the pisco sour, a delicious cocktail perfect for sipping slowly as the sun begins to wane in the evenings, whether relaxing on the coast or celebrating your victorious efforts having scaled Machu Picchu.
Top Peru Honeymoon Highlights
Machu Picchu
This notorious ancient citadel never fails to amaze and inspire travellers of all descriptions. There is a spellbinding mystery in the mesmerising hilltop architecture and mist-shrouded emerald slopes that flank this iconic archaeological phenomenon. To experience such a magical site as a celebration of your wedding is an unforgettable memory that is sure to be cherished forever.
Lake Titicaca
A peaceful alternative to a typical beachside honeymoon location, the gently rippling surface of Lake Titicaca often proves just as soothing as the most idyllic beaches. Plus, the sunsets over this tranquil body of water paint both water and sky in romantic shades of amber, violet and peach. Few sights provide a more appropriate way to end the day for any recently married couple.
Fine Dining in Lima
With some of the greatest restaurants that the continent of South America has to offer, Lima is an ideal stop on any Peruvian honeymoon. High-end restaurants in Peru’s capital city serve up all manner of cuisines, but the most intriguing establishments are those that draw their inspiration from local specialities. Nikkei - an eclectic blend of Peruvian and Japanese flavours - is also a must try whilst here.
Cordillera Blanca
Trek to some of the most stunning and secluded parts of Peru in the form of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range. The deep turquoise hue of the high altitude lakes and their contrast against the gargantuan slopes of the snow capped mountains creates scenery unlike anything else you will have ever witnessed. Sitting together and gazing over some of the planet’s most unspoiled natural beauty can make you feel as though there were no one else in the world.
Cusco’s Cobbled Colonial Streets
Meandering between the colonial buildings in Cusco’s backstreets gives visitors a greater appreciation of how quaintly picturesque this city really is. Honeymooners shouldn’t consider Cusco a mere stopover on the way to or from Machu Picchu and should instead take time to explore its historical neighbourhoods. The cobbled streets and colonial architecture of areas such as San Blas take on a warm and intimate glow after the sun sets and lanterns begin to ignite across Cusco.
Pisco Sours
The most popular cocktail to have emerged from Peru (or perhaps Chile…) is undoubtedly the pisco sour. A smooth blend of Peruvian pisco, lime juice, syrup, egg white and bitters, pisco sours are almost too easy to drink. The cocktail is the perfect companion for any evening during your Peruvian honeymoon, whether staring out over the kaleidoscopic waters of Lake Titicaca at sunset or celebrating your return to civilisation following your trek to Machu Picchu. Ask our Tailor-made Team about experiencing a pisco sour mixing class.

When is the best time to visit
Peru’s dry season falls between May and September, making it ideal timing for those honeymooning after a summer wedding. Temperatures are at their lowest during this time of year but there is very little rainfall and less cloud cover, meaning superior visibility when visiting sites like Machu Picchu.
Between November and March, rainfall levels rise significantly in the highlands, making outdoor activities like hiking less appealing but also ensuring smaller crowds at the more popular sites. The Inca Trail is closed for safety reasons during February each year whilst it is repaired for the trekkers visiting the following season. However, Machu Picchu remains open to those travelling to the site by train. Conversely, the warmer weather means that this is the best time of year to visit Peru’s coastline.
The shoulder season months of April and October can be unpredictable, with downpours one day and clear skies the next. Visiting during these months can therefore prove somewhat of a gamble but again this means less tourists.
The Amazonian region sees rainfall of varying degrees throughout the year given its tropical climate, whilst parts of the desertous southern region see very little rainfall regardless of the time of year. The coastal region near Mancora remains pleasantly warm and comparatively dry year round. Research the conditions in the regions that you are looking to visit for your honeymoon - it's important to pack appropriately for areas that see such a broad variety of climates.
Group Tours vs Tailor-made Tours
We offer trips to Peru both as part of a group of fellow travellers or on your own bespoke trip of a lifetime. Which you should choose is entirely down to your preference. Our group tours are perfect for those looking to experience the modern craze of a group honeymoon (or buddymoon) whilst our Tailor-made tours are for those looking for something more private and personalised. For those of you that cant resist the urge to find your own slice of paradisiacal white sand beach whilst on honeymoon, we can combine your tour to Peru with a trip to one of its neighbouring nations, known for coastlines with pristine sands and crystal-clear waters. Talk to our Tailor-made team and enquire about combining your trip with a relaxing stop off in Brazil, Colombia or the Galapagos Islands.

The Amazon Jungle in Peru
Although Peru is on the list for many travellers because of Machu Picchu, it is all too often overlooked for many of its other once in a lifetime destinations. The Amazon is largely associated with Brazil but the country shares the Amazon with several countries, including Peru, which makes the Peruvian Amazon Jungle less travelled than tourist spots in Brazil.
